2018 Webinars – Series One
Wed Jan 31st 10 am EST – ABCs of ESOPs for ESOP Participants – Presented by Jim Bado, Workplace Development, Inc. and Chris Cooper, Ohio Employee Ownership Center –
This webinar is, as the title suggests, a primer on ESOPs and is geared towards ESOP participants of all levels and experience, but is ideal for employees of new ESOPs, or new hires from existing ESOPs. Covered will be a bit of history, an overview of the ESOP structure, what information participants receive, and a review of everything else. Register Here

Wed Feb 7th 10 am EST – Avoid the Problems: Understanding Your ESOP Distribution Procedures and Policies – Presented by Mark Swanson, Crowe Horwath – It is important to understand, and follow, the proper ESOP distribution rules and procedures as you create, and follow, your ESOP Distribution Policy. Frequently, the distribution policy is not given enough thought and planning and results in trouble down the road. Learn some of the ‘devilish details’ that will keep you on the straight and narrow in this session. Register Here

Wed March 7th 10 am EST – ESOP Legal Q & A – Presented by Dale Vlasek, McDonald Hopkins LLP – this webinar provides you the opportunity to bring your ESOP legal and technical questions to this interactive session. In order to maximize the 60 minute time frame, participants will be asked to submit questions ahead of time, but last minute questions are welcome too! Register Here

Wed May 2nd 10 am EST – The 1042 Rollover: Too Good to Be True? – Presented by Curt Rubinas, UBS – One potential advantage to selling your business to an ESOP is the ability to defer or possibly eliminate the capital gain through the use of the 1042 exchange. How does it work? What are the common strategies business owners use? What are the advantages and disadvantages? How do you know if it is the right choice for you? We will tackle these questions and more as we walk through real life examples to help business owners better understand the short and long-term impact of this unique tax free exchange. Register Here

Wed May 9th 11 am EST – Building an Effective Board of Directors for an ESOP Company – Presented by Martin Staubus, Beyster Institute – When a founding entrepreneur is running a company as the CEO, there isn’t much doubt about where ultimate authority lies. The founder/owner/CEO is the boss!  End of story! But who makes the big decisions after the founder has sold to an ESOP?  For ESOP companies, it’s essential that they have a strong and effective board of directors.  That’s where the authority to make the big decisions must reside.  But who are the right people to serve on a board?  And what exactly should they do – and not do? Register Here

Wed June 6th 10 am EST – ESOP Administration Q & A – Presented by Lori Stuart, Crowe Horwath – Like the ESOP Legal Q & A above, this session, this webinar provides you the opportunity to bring your ESOP Administration questions to this interactive session. In order to maximize the 60-minute time frame, participants will be asked to submit questions ahead of time, but last-minute questions are welcome too! Register Here

Wed June 20th 10 am EST – Motivating Long Term Employees in Your Employee Owned Company – Presented by Chris Cooper, Ohio Employee Ownership Center – Employee ownership is meant to be a long term benefit, designed to fully kick in at retirement. In addition, high employee turnover can be a significant drain on your resources. Therefore, the goal for most employee owned companies is to keep their people for the long term. However, somewhere along the way, most workers lose some of their motivation to make a difference and create value for themselves, and their company. This session will explore the causes (and solutions) to keeping your veteran employees on track, and moving forward. Register Here

Wed July 25th 10 am EST – Reviewing Your ESOP Valuation – Presented by Davin Gustafson, Apple Growth Partners – How do you know if your valuation is up to standards? When is the right moment or circumstance to think about getting a second opinion? This session will provide you with the background, and the right questions to ask of your valuation advisor, to ensure you are getting an appraisal that helps you meet your fiduciary duties. Register Here
